I am Prachi. Could you tell me the difference between 2D and 3D animation?

2D animation basically deals with length and width of an animated object, where as in 3D, you work on the depth area as well to provide object a realistic appeal. Basically, 2D is 'flat' that uses the X & Y (horizontal and vertical) axis', the image has only two dimensions and 3D adds the 'Z' dimension. With the addition of third dimension, th object is allowed for rotation. That is essentially a difference we can say between a painting and a sculpture. 2D tends to look 'flatter' ( a rectangle) than 3D (a cube). The example of a glass of water can better illustrate the difference between 2D animation and 3D animation. The picture of a glass of water is what 2D is and being able to reach out and actually pick up the glass of water is the result of 3D animation work. 2D involves drawing and movement of an object on a flat surface or in the vertical and horizontal planes. While 3D involves 'modeling', i.e., creating objects in 3-dimensions, residing in an expansive virtual environment, replete with lights, reflections, other objects, shadows, etc.
