India’s animation studios are catering to the requirements of various end user segments such as feature films, TV programs, advertisements/commercials and computer games. Therefore the scope it offers to the animation students are a lot. Animation work is also finding a place in niches such as film titling, special effects, Web entertainment programs, TV broadcast graphics, 3D modeling and background development. In each of these areas of scope, the services that has been offering by an animation production company include animation production services, co-production and content creation, to name a few. Other potential platform for animation include online education, CAD/CAE, and industry specific applications such as architecture, medical, legal/insurance, etc., though Indian studios are not focused on these areas. And needless to say, skill sets in 2D and 3D animation are leading to the opportunities in segments such as TV programs and feature films. India has several training institutes that cater to the demand of training animation professionals. Chief among them are the National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad), J.J. School of Arts, Zee Institute of Creative Arts (ZICA), Mumbai, Industrial Design Center (IIT Mumbai), IIT Guwahati, C-DAC’s National Multimedia Resource Center (Pune). Private training institutes include Arena Animation Academy (Mumbai), Maac and Pentamedia Graphics (Chennai). With Finding Nemo coming out today, it seems like a particularly good time to ask this question. Many have said that with films like Shrek, Toy Story, and Ice Age, computers have rung the death knell for traditional hand drawn animation like 2d. Others say that once the novelty of 3D wears off, they will exist side-by-side. With more and more studios transitioning to 3D and laying off 2D animators, it seems that the age of hand-drawn cartoons is ending. But it is better to say that the two exist side-by-side for more time to come. In computer graphics software, the distinction between 2D and 3D is occasionally blurred; 2D applications may use 3D techniques to achieve effects such as lighting with using flash, and 3D may use 2D rendering techniques.
