The difference between CCNA and MCSE can be better described with the following example; Suppose, a bank has two branches, A and B, in different cities. Branch A has 50 employees working on 50 systems. The setup is called local area network, LAN. If these systems are running on Microsoft technology, then MCSE (Microsoft certified systems Engineer) is required to learn by you to network them. So, MCSE teaches you the networking concepts of a LAN. It means that MCSE certified engineers will plan, design and maintain the LAN in city A and city B, separately. Now, since both the branches belong to the same bank, they need to be connected too. But as they are in two different cities, connecting the LAN in city A to the LAN in city B through wire is just impossible. Here comes the part of Internet. All we need to do is to connect the LAN in city A to the LAN in city B through the configuration called WAN (Wide area network). And to connect LAN to the Internet, we use a hardware called ROUTER. MCSE teaches you the networking concepts of a LAN. MCSE certified engineers will be planning, designing and maintaining the LAN in city A and the LAN in city B. And CCNA, in a nutshell, teaches about WAN (Wide area networking) by using Routers. Now, CCNA (Cisco certified Network associate) is the certification that teaches you how to manage those routers in a network. For CCNA, you are certified in CISCO hardware equipment (you deal with WAN networking) whereas for MCSE, you are certified by Microsoft to work with networking concepts and operation systems (you deal with LAN networking)
