Defense services- Prestigious way to serve your country

Defense services offer you a great platform to live with pride, serve your Country and earn a prestigious and dignified name for yourself and family. There are various career choices in defense services and it is entirely up to you which profession you choose. You can opt for Army, Navy, Police, Air-Force, IPS and various administrative jobs in Indian Defense.

The Indian armed forces are the largest forces in the world and one of the best. However, not everyone living in India can apply for Defense Services. There are certain eligibilities that are mandatory to get into Defense services in India. They are listed below-

Nationality

You must be a citizen of India or a subject of Bhutan and Nepal.

If you are a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the aim of settling down here permanently, is eligible for Defense services.

Age limits, sex and marital status

For IMA (Indian Military Academy) Unmarried male candidates are eligible who are born not earlier than 1981 and not later than 1986.

For Indian Naval Academy, only Unmarried male candidates are eligible who are born not earlier than 1983 and not later than 1986

For Indian Air force, unmarried male candidates are eligible who are born not prior to 1982 and not later than 1986.

For officers Training Academy- Male candidates (married or Unmarried) who are not born prior to 1980 and not later than 1986 are eligible.

Educational qualification

As far as educational qualification is concerned, for IMA and Officer’s Training Academy you need to have a degree from a recognized university. For Indian Naval Academy candidate must have B. Sc. (Physics and Mathematics) or Engineering degree. Indian Air Force requires degree from a recognized University (physics and Mathematics in Intermediate) or Engineering bachelor’s degree.

Besides above eligibilities, one the most important requirement in Defense Services is the candidate should be physically sound and no physical defects. He must have a sound body and sound mind. In case of any physical disability the candidate is rejected immediately.

Today, Indian Defense Services give you plenty of opportunities of growth and promotion. There is a good increase in the salary of all government employees including defense officers in the 6th pay commission. Earlier their salary was not very welcoming, which was a main reason for many defense officers to get de-motivated and switch to other professions. However things have changed for better, besides a good pay the Defense Officers enjoy many other perks and facilities given by the Government of India.

The other Defense service you can find is IPS which is another opportunity to serve your country. The basic eligibility for IPS is graduation from a recognized Board or University. The minimum age required is 21 and the maximum is 30 years. The civil service examination is held by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year. IPS (Indian Police Service) is the most prestigious job in the country along with IAS and IFS.
