Moreover, this scheme has opportunities and short-term fellowships in a specialized field of research or study. Students and professionals who are indulged in the field of social and economic development and policy reform are awarded with this scholarship.

The scholarship awards in Australia aim to promote knowledge, education links and also help in improving ties between Australia and its neighboring countries through extensive scholarship programs. There are basically two streams of the Australian awards – an achievement stream which aims at the brightest students, researchers and professionals to come to Australia where as a Development stream targets to build capacity in developing countries. The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) scholarships come under the Australia Awards program because of these Australian scholarship awards.

This is to be noted here most of the scholarships program are meant for meritorious candidates who have poor financial status and cannot bear the expenses of education and living in Australia. Australia is recognized internationally for its quality of education, strong educational infrastructure at relatively lower expenditure. The education system in Australia consists of twelve years and there are public and private schools. The Primary and secondary schools of Australia are equivalent to 10+2 education in India. Post graduation is divided into- Masters Degrees, Doctoral Degrees, Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Certificates. Australian universities are also popular for their excellence in teaching and research and the academic staff is well qualified and recruited from Australia and around the globe.

As far as education expenditure in Australia is concerned, it is comparatively cheaper than UK and US. The accommodation and other living expenses of international students are quite economical than other countries.
