Comp TIA Linux+ is a certification of knowledge of Linux operating systems, from their installation and use to the basics of applicable free software and open source licenses. It is meant for the professionals who want to certify their technical knowledge in basic installation, operation and trouble-shooting for Linux operating systems. It is powered by LPI consists of two exams LX0-101 and LX0-102. The Linux+ exam is meant for IT professionals who have six to twelve months of practical experience using Linux. The exams include system architecture, Linux installation and package management, GNU and UNIX commands, devices, Linux filesystems and the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard. Candidates who have qualified the exam can work at the Linux command line, perform maintenance tasks, assist users and install and configure workstations. Earning Linux+ certification is the first step to vendor specific training such as Oracle Certified Associate and Novell SUSE Linux program. Comp TIA Linux+ certification was started by leading industry experts. The program was established with support and financial assistance from IT industry experts and leaders like Intel, IBM and Hewlett –Packard.
However, Linux+ exam has also received some criticisms since its commencement because of too many hardware related questions initially, many of which were included in A+ exam. However, the newest version of the exam of February 2005 has sorted out this problem.
